Tattoos: The Power Of The Zodiac

Some of the most popular tattoo designs today are the tattoo designs modeled after the signs of the zodiac.  The twelve signs of the zodiac appeal to a wide range of individuals around the world as the symbol that applies to each person depends upon the date that they were born and many people have a deeply personal spiritual connection to their personal sign of the Zodiac.  Using the sign of the zodiac that the person was born under in the design of their tattoo makes the tattoo a personal statement that often has great meaning to the person that it adorns.

Zodiac signs have had powerful meanings to individuals throughout the ages, influencing everything from a person’s personality to their daily activities.  Many individuals have made interpreting how a person’s zodiac sign influences different aspects of their lives their job and have earned a very lucrative income by doing it.  There have been hundreds of books written about the signs of the zodiac and a daily horoscope explaining how the zodiac will be affecting the day can be found in newspapers and newsletters around the world. 

When a person gets a zodiac tattoo, in 95% of the cases it is the zodiac sign that they were born under, with the rest being the zodiac symbols of their children or their loved ones.  There are a total of 12 zodiac symbols, roughly corresponding to the months of the year, and the exact date of a person’s birth determines which zodiac signs were in the sky at the moment of their birth.  The twelve zodiac symbols are Aquarius, Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius, Libra, Scorpio, Virgo, and Taurus.

The zodiac symbols are governed by the position of the stars, the sun, and the moon at certain times of the year.  The zodiac sign that is prominent in the sky during a certain time is the one that is assigned to the individuals born at that time of the year.  The Roman names of the symbols have been used for hundreds of years but the signs of the zodiac themselves had been used by ancient Babylonian astrologers for thousands of years before that. 

There are many different ways for a zodiac tattoo to be displayed.  Some individuals choose to place larger symbols on their upper arms, shoulders, or calf while other individuals choose to incorporate the symbol into other designs, such as armbands or lower back tattoos.  The choice of how to display the zodiac tattoo will depend on the personality of the individual and how they would ultimately like the symbol to be displayed.

Most tattoo artists will have a number of different zodiac symbol designs to choose from in order to appeal to a wide range of customers.   There are the general symbols that are images of animals or items, free-flowing symbols that do not resemble anything, and images of people that symbolize the strengths of that particular zodiac sign.  The designs can be customized in virtually any way that the person can imagine and the meaning of the tattoo will not be affected in any major way.
